Made for Vacation

After months of capturing real tourists on camera across the state of South Carolina, The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism premiered two national commercials produced by Mad Monkey, Inc. in association with the bounce agency in Greenville, SC and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Columbia, SC. The ads were unveiled at the 2010 SC Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel, in Myrtle Beach, SC.

“The highlight of the conference for me was seeing how both commercials were received by the audience,” said Tim Gardner, Mad Monkey’s director and partner. “It made all the 4 am sunrise production calls suddenly worth it.”

Mad Monkey, who was also a sponsor of the event, was hired by the bounce agency to capture images across South Carolina and then reinforce those moments with a special blend of animation and motion graphics.

“We are very pleased with the high quality work Mad Monkey, Inc., a South Carolina based company, produced for us,” said Chad Prosser, director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, which also oversees the South Carolina Film Commission.

“We are excited about the Made for Vacation campaign. These ads strongly convey, in the words of actual visitors, that South Carolina has the many attractions and destinations that make it the perfect place for vacation,” Prosser added.

The commercials, which introduce the theme: “South Carolina is Made for Vacation,” also created by bounce, are slated for national release in the Spring of 2010.

“This was our first time working with Mad Monkey,” said Laveda Miles, creative services manager at the bounce agency, “We are very happy with how the two teams worked together.”

“Although this job was challenging due to the timetable and the level of animation and motion graphics required, it was great to work with another creative group at such an intense level,” said David Johnson, director of animation and partner at Mad Monkey. “It was nice watching the work evolve beyond the original storyboards into images that both teams are proud of.”

The annual SC Governor’s Conference overviews the changes and trends in the travel and tourism industry and works to increase tourism in today’s economy through education of the evolving marketing industry.

Rush's Campaign

In partnership with the Ruddle Agency, Mad Monkey debuted Rush’s first television campaign in over 50 years to the Midlands.

“This was one of our most rewarding projects to date,” said Lorie Gardner, CEO and partner of Mad Monkey.  “Rush’s and Dave Ruddle (CEO and president of The Ruddle Agency) truly embrace the idea of working as partners on a message. They were wide open to ideas, and encouraged us to talk to employees and customers alike.”

“We’re hearing that the campaign captures the service and taste experience of Rush’s loyal clients, and we think that can definitely pique the interest of newcomers,” said Michael Powelson, writer and producer at Mad Monkey.  “Fast food isn’t rocket surgery, and Rush’s understands this,” he added. “They leave the gimmicks to their competitors and focus instead on the fundamentals. Kind of like the Hoosiers of burger joints. We’re hoping for a similar ending.”

Rush’s is a Columbia staple of local fast food chains dating back to 1940, when the first Rush family drive-through restaurant, Carolina Dairies, opened in Bush River Road. In the early 1960’s, George Rush expanded the food and service options and changed the name to Rush’s- a franchise that has grown to nine locations throughout the Columbia area.

Mad Monkey is currently lobbying for a location in the Vista.
