Historic Columbia Foundation Unveils New Exhibit

Last night, Historic Columbia Foundation hosted an opening reception for a new period room (like a period piece, but instead, an entire room) in the Hampton-Preston Mansion. The room showcases elements from the College for Women and Chicora College (what eventually became a part of Queens College in Charlotte, NC). H-P was home to these colleges from 1890-1930.

Mad Monkey From An Intern’s Perspective

Emerson Smith, a rising sophomore at a local high school in Columbia, recently spent a week with the Monkeys for what his school calls a “Winterm” or something like that. Emerson was a big help both on a shoot and in the office. And just check out what a wiz he is with a Flip cam and some video editing tools!

Social Media: What’s the Point?

The question of social media has been presented to us from every angle these days: What’s the point and do I need to do it? I personally receive this question not just from clients, but also from friends and family. The answer across the board is not a resounding “yes,” but a resounding, “it depends.”

Future of Websites?

Last week Ethan Jackson and I attended the Online Marketing Summit Lunch and Learn in Charlotte, NC. It was a nice way to keep a finger on the pulse of the online marketing arena. I was struck by the simple metaphor Aaron Kahlow made of a website to a house. At Mad Monkey we often use the concept of “blueprints” to describe the website redesign process to clients, but in Kahlow’s concept the website is the foundation; the three pillars are search engine optimization (SEO), web analytics and email marketing; and the roof is social media. What a great way of describing a complete online marketing package.
